The Denington Choral Series, as endorsed by former King’s Singer member Philip Lawson, is a range of choral works set in both SATB and SSA formats that will enhance the repertoire of both Christian and secular choirs. The lyricists and composers are proven songwriters that bring a wealth of experience to the choral market and have provided songs that cover a broad spectrum of styles and difficulty and should appeal to many choirs who regularly present music in churches or concert halls.
Eric Ball's setting of Psalm 150 for choir and piano uses verse 1 as a refrain which recurs after verse 2 and also as a finale to the piece. He utilises some word-painting in the verses which concern trumpets, harp, cymbals etc. and then there is an expressive solo section for soprano to the words of the last verse ‘Let everything that hath breath praise the Lord’, which is repeated by the whole choir in harmony, leading to the third and last appearance of the verse 1 refrain.
