'An Adventure Shared' was originally published as 'The Soldier' in 1955. It tells the story of 'Mary', who in reality was Winnie Baird, elder sister of the author, Catherine Baird. The story also features Catherine's two other sisters and her brother, as well as Catherine herself - who in the book is called Elizabeth.
The book paints a fascinating picture of life as a Salvation Army Officers child living all over the world, from the East End of Londond, to Australia and South Africa. This child's-point-of-view story is humorous and adventurous, perceptive and heart-warming.
