Denis Hunter, a retired Salvation army officer, was born in 1919 in London's east end. His Salvation Army career included service as an industrial chaplain, as a youth specialist, and in latter years senior administrative positions in Zimbabwe, Scotland and New Zealand. He served as International Secretary for the South Pacific and East Asia, as International Secretary for Africa and was also in charge of The Salvation Army in the United Kingdom for a period of two years. A graduate of Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge, he undertook his degree studies as a mature student at the same time as supporting his wife, Pauline, in her ministry as a Salvation Army corps officer.
